Background: Kho Kho is a traditional Indian sport demanding
high levels of agility, speed, strength, and endurance. To improve athletic
performance, various training methods like yogic practices and resistance
training have gained popularity. However, the combined effect of these
interventions on physical performance variables in Kho Kho players is not
well-documented.
Purpose: This study investigates the impact of a combined
yogic practice and resistance training program on selected physical variables
among male Kho Kho players.
Methods: Forty male Kho Kho players aged 18–25 were
randomly assigned to either an experimental group, which underwent an 8-week
combined yogic and resistance training program, or a control group that
continued their regular training routine. Pre- and post-tests measured physical
variables such as muscular strength (handgrip dynamometer), flexibility
(sit-and-reach test), and endurance (12-minute run test).
Results: The experimental group showed significant
improvements in muscular strength, flexibility, and endurance compared to the
control group (p < 0.05). Flexibility increased by 15%, muscular strength by
12%, and endurance by 10%, indicating a positive impact of the combined
training intervention.
